Wedding DIY: Simple Things You Can Make Yourself

For those who enjoy DIY projects, creating some personalized items for your wedding is a great way to add a unique touch. Scott and I made several items ourselves and were thrilled with the final results. We enjoyed working on the projects together and saved some money too!

Touches To Your Invitation

For our invitations, Scott and I chose a simple and classic design. We opted for letterpress invitations from Minted. To add a touch of personality, we included a velvet ribbon and a wax stamp. To complete the set, we enhanced each envelope with vintage stamps.

Place Cards

For our place cards, we printed all of the guests’ names on deckled edge paper. After, added a wax seal and velvet ribbon to match the invitation set. The final product turned out great.

Originally, I ordered stained wooden place card holders from an Etsy shop. They promised delivery of the place cards before the wedding. After checking tracking, the items were scheduled to arrive on the day of the wedding or the day after. To avoid any issues, I decided to use the deckled edge paper that I already had as a backup.

The day before our wedding, I received the place cards that I had ordered from Etsy. Unfortunately, they were not in good condition as the wooden pieces were stuck together. This was most likely because they were not fully dry before being packaged. Thankfully, I had the deckled edge paper backup plan in place and opted for it instead of relying on the original Etsy purchase. It was a relief that everything worked out in the end!

Seating Chart and Welcome Sign

Creating the seating chart and welcome sign was easy, but it was challenge to find the ideal mirrors. Thankfully, we discovered some excellent options on Facebook Marketplace and at a reasonable cost. For the seating chart, I purchased decals from Etsy and utilized deckled edge paper, which I secured with black wax seals. We covered the mirror backs with black cardboard that we found at a nearby craft store and bought the stands from there too.

Generational Photo Displays and Signed Album

I thought it was a great idea to include family photos and show them to our guests! Our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos were displayed which was important for both of us. I used an acrylic board to stick the pictures on and added black photo edges to give them a more classic look. This matched perfectly with our welcome table, which had an album of our engagement photos for guests to sign.

Vow Book

Last but not least, our vow book! Scott and I chose to write our own vows and we thought it would be special to have a book that we could forever cherish and read over and over on each anniversary. Blue Sky Papers has a great selection of velvet vow books that have various colors, optional designs, and ribbons to choose from. We loved reading our vows from the book before our guests and will have it to cherish forever.
