Is The Chanel 19 Handbag Worth The Splurge?

The Chanel 19 flap bag became very trendy after its debut in 2019. It holds special significance as this was the last bag that Karl Lagerfeld had designed before his passing. The bag resembles other Chanel bags such as the classic flap and the 2.55 because of the square silhouette and the iconic quilting. Since 2019, Chanel has released many variations of the bag that range in color, material, and size. I currently have the Chanel 19 in white lambskin leather in the size medium. In my opinion, I believe the flap bag is worth the splurge and is a great investment. I have had my bag for a while and love it!

Investment

Chanel is one of the only retail brands that has held its value and will most likely keep doing so. The retail prices of their handbags increase relatively frequently and the demand for the classic look does not stop. The Chanel 19 flap bag comes in three sizes, medium, large, and maxi. The smallest size is the medium and measures 10.1″ W x 6.2″ H x 3.5″ D. The strap drop is 19.5″ and the handle drop is 3.5.” This is the bag size that I have and I think it is the perfect size because it can fit many items without being too big.

Chain

The Chanel 19 bag in white has a long chain that combines gold and silver metal, which is a cool feature. The top of the chain has a rectangular leather strap, designed to comfortably fit on the shoulder. The smaller chain is gold. The bag is slightly heavy due to the weight of the two chains, but not significantly so.

Practicality

I love the practicality of the Chanel 19 bag. Its strap and handle drop make it versatile enough to be used as an everyday bag or for a night out. The strap can be worn as a shoulder or crossbody bag, and its medium size can hold all the essentials, such as makeup, snacks, a small planner, and other items of similar size. It’s perfect for carrying around, as it’s about the size of a sheet of paper.

The flap bag is available in a wide range of colors and materials. I am particularly fond of the pink tweed, and I have also been considering the black and white houndstooth. The timeless look of the white lambskin on the Chanel 19 caught my attention, and it’s a classic choice that never goes out of style.

Cons

I have found the only downside to be the white color of the bag. Although the white is classic and gorgeous, it requires extreme caution while using. Color transfer from jeans or other materials can easily stain and ruin the bag. Therefore, it is important to carefully consider the outfit and materials the bag comes in contact with.

The Chanel 19 bag should be stored in a cool and dry place where it won’t be exposed to sunlight. I personally like to display my bag in my closet and keep it stuffed with filler to maintain its shape. Avoid keeping it in a box as it can lead to mold growth and damage your bag, particularly if your home is humid. To prevent the leather from drying out, you can use a leather conditioner and a soft microfiber cloth to polish it.

I would highly recommend visiting a Chanel boutique before purchasing anywhere to try the bag on and see what sizes and materials you like best. It is always a good idea to purchase from Chanel directly but there are also other options.
