Throw The Best Critter Party at Any Budget

My son’s 4th birthday is coming up and my husband and I wanted to throw him a party that resembles his interests. He went from being obsessed with dinosaurs to fully being consumed with all kinds of critters like bugs, reptiles, and other little flying creatures. So, why not throw a critter party!? The only caveat was that this birthday theme did not seem too popular so it was a little harder to look for things to purchase online that were already made. We had to think a little out of the box and I love how it turned out!

1. Invitations

Canva made it super easy to create cute invitations using their graphics. I printed them on cardstock that I already had and cut them to the size 5×7. Additionally, I used Canva to print addresses and added a cute bug on some brown envelopes that I had available. The end result was fantastic, and all I needed was a forever stamp to send them out.

2. Critter Party Cake

I adore custom-created cakes but a lot of the time although they look fabulous, they do not taste that great. That’s why I absolutely enjoy Publix bakery cakes. They are easy to order, taste good, and have a great variety. I have never been disappointed! So, I decided to order a cake from them that had no decorations and use my own creativity to decorate it. I searched Pinterest for ideas and went to Hobby Lobby to buy fondant in various colors. There, I also found a bark silicone mold that was perfect for covering the cake! I loved finding this edible moss trick and just love how the cake turned out!

3. Critter Balloons

All balloons were purchased from the dollar store and Walmart and were either 9 or 12 inches.

balloon arch– The arch was made from 12-inch balloons and included a party caterpillar at the end on the right side.

ants– The ant’s body was made from three balloons, two 9-inch balloons and a 12-inch. I tied the two smaller (head and body) balloons together and attached the larger one (abdomen) with sticky dot glue. The thin black ribbons served as the legs and I attached them with sticky dot glue as well. I had large gray sticky dots that I used for eyes and colored in the pupils with Sharpie.

bees- The bees were my favorite to make! I varied them in size and attached thick black ribbon to represent the stripe. I then used wide wire ribbon that was clear and sparkly for the wings and tied to the black ribbon.

daisy flowers– I used four 12-inch white balloons as the stems and a 9-inch yellow ribbon for the center. Tie them together and voila, a cute daisy!

4. Table Decorations

The tables were set with linen drop cloths and the middle runner was packing paper that was folded in half. Green apples, gummy worms, and Oreos decorated the runner. I crushed the Oreos and let them dry out to make “dirt.” I also made edible moss that turned out unbelievably realistic! I laid all of the items out on the packaging paper and placed the gummy worms in the “dirt,” and on the apples and garnished them with edible moss, some small wooden plates, and also squishy toy lizards that Roman picked out.

5. party favor bags

The kids’ party favors were candy from the pinata; each had their own white bag they could decorate and fill. I placed colored pencils on the table for them to color the white bags.
