How To Turn Grocery Store Flowers Into The Perfect Gift

Grocery store flowers are underrated! They have so much potential and can be turned into a nice gift with a little effort. All it takes is a few supplies and some grocery store flowers and voilà! Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think! It’s easier than you’d expect!

Supplies:
  • Vessel
  • Grocery Store Flowers
  • Wet Foam
  • Sharp Scissors (to trim stems)
  • ribbon (optional)
  • handwritten note (optional)

Pick a Vessel and Think About A Color Scheme

The first step is to pick a vessel that your flowers will look beautiful in and start thinking about a color scheme. The color scheme might come before the vessel, but they do go hand in hand. Some great places for vases or unique vessels are consignment stores, Home Goods, and other similar establishments. I love the purse vessel from Michaels because it looks like a real purse, and it also has lining on the inside.

The next step is to think about a color scheme and the flowers that will be in the bouquet. Sometimes grocery stores are limited in the flower choices they have, so it might be a good idea to visit 2 or 3 locations, depending on what flowers you’re looking for. I have noticed that some grocery stores are better with their flower selections than others, so I keep that in mind when shopping for groceries.

Color Scheme, Size, and Wet Foam

Now that you have the vessel and a general idea about a color scheme, it’s time to visit a grocery store and purchase the flowers as well as grab some wet foam. Think about the colors that will go well with the vessel, the amount that you will need to complete the arrangement and the greenery used as filler. Pick a variety of flowers within the color scheme for extra interest and elegance.

A good thing to keep in mind is that the bouquet can never be too full, so if you’re not sure how many flowers to get, it’s always better to get extra, rather than not enough.

How To Make The Arrangement

Grab the wet foam and cut enough to fill your vessel. Follow the instructions on how to soak the wet foam and place inside your vessel. Grab your flowers stem by stem and trim the ends at an angle to help the flowers absorb the water more easily. It is also good practice to remove any leaves below the waterline to prevent bacterial growth. Start placing the cut stems into the wet foam and create layers and dimension by varying the height and types of flowers or greenery used.

Add Personal Touches

Depending on the type of vessel, consider adding tissue paper, kraft paper, or even ribbon. Bamboo skewers are a great way to attach small decorative pieces to a bouquet as well. Sometimes handwritten notes or something similar can be used to personalize the gift that can go a long way.

These small but meaningful steps can turn simple grocery store flowers into a polished, thoughtful gift that feels luxurious and personal.
